EV fleet onboarding for B2B platform
Fleet managers struggled to onboard and monitor EVs, risking costly errors. I led research, usability testing, and design of a new onboarding and monitoring system with clear connectivity indicators, programme status, and error handling. The redesign achieved 35% faster onboarding, 30% higher satisfaction, and 95% accuracy in programme tracking, exceeding business efficiency goals and strengthening B2B adoption.

Context
As part of a new B2B fleet management programme, we discovered a critical pain point: onboarding and monitoring vehicles was harder than it should be.
Fleet managers had no reliable way to see:
Which vehicles were successfully onboarded
Which had lost telemetry/data access
Which were participating in utility incentive programmes
Without this visibility, they wasted time troubleshooting, risked misreporting, and faced costly operational errors.

My role
Lead product designer for the onboarding and vehicle monitoring experience.
Responsible for research, concept design, testing, and handover.
Collaborated with fleet managers, engineering, data, and product teams.
The challenge
How might we design an onboarding and monitoring system that gives clarity, transparency, and confidence to fleet managers across hundreds of vehicles at once?
Process & decisions
1. Understanding the problem
Conducted 5+ in-depth interviews with fleet managers to uncover frustrations.
Ran a workflow analysis of telemetry and onboarding processes → mapped breakdowns.
Benchmarked 3 competitor platforms for best practices in data visibility and onboarding flows.

From this, the friction points were clear: fleet managers needed transparency, identification, and confidence in their data.
2. Key friction points
Poor transparency in telemetry status.
Difficulty identifying vehicles reliably.
Uncertainty about programme participation.

3. Designing the solution
Clear vehicle identification: added names, logos, and consistent labelling.
Connectivity indicators: real-time status of telemetry/data sync.
Programme participation visibility: instant view of which vehicles were enrolled.
Redesigned vehicle list: error handling, success states, and clean hierarchy of information.

Testing and iteration
Built low-fidelity wireframes to test concepts quickly.
Ran 3 rounds of usability testing with fleet managers.
Refined flows based on feedback until onboarding felt seamless and intuitive.

Outcome
The redesigned vehicle onboarding and listing system gave managers confidence and visibility at every step with the following impact:
+35% faster onboarding (exceeding our 30% efficiency goal).
+30% increase in user satisfaction (above the 25% target).
95% programme tracking accuracy (up from 70%).

Business impact
Reduced costly onboarding errors for utility and fleet partners.
Improved fleet manager efficiency, leading to higher platform adoption.
Strengthened our B2B credibility by delivering enterprise-level visibility and reliability.

Reflections
This project reinforced a key principle: make the invisible visible.
By surfacing telemetry status, programme participation, and vehicle identity, we gave fleet managers peace of mind and transformed a frustrating process into a reliable, scalable workflow.
I strengthened my skills in:
Enterprise UX: designing clarity at scale across hundreds of entities.
Iterative validation: grounding design decisions in repeated user testing.
Cross-functional alignment: ensuring engineering, data, and business teams aligned on what “successful onboarding” meant.
